ClearPC Clear MicroATX Computer Case
Added: May 19th 2003 Reviewer: Jas Batra Score: Related Link: ClearPC Official Site Purchase Link: MJP ComputersThe personality of a person is reflected in what they own. To an artist, your beige or black computer case made of cold, hard steel, wouldn’t make you a great person to be around. And then, to add insult to injury, you would be the same as everyone else!
Times are changing, with the advent of tougher plastics and the surge in computer case "mods," people have begun to personalize their computers. Cutting out windows and installing a clear acrylic panel, adding neon lights, even glowing fans. But, in any case (no pun intended), you still are dealing with the cold metal.
However, that doesn't have to be anymore. Thanks to Franjo Goluza, and The Upgrade Path of Victoria, British Columbia, a metal case is the thing of the past. An innovative design has led to the creation of a completely clear computer case. The ClearPC is constructed of 3/16" cast clear Lucite, a strong plastic.
We received the Micro-ATX version of the ClearPC. Packed extremely well, in fact, it was packed so well that we attempted to repack it in the "popcorn" and realized it was nearly impossible. However, the excessive packaging goes a long way for a product such as this; we were able to drop the box (with the case) from a height of 5 feet without any damage to the case.
Nowadays, computer cases are becoming light weight, with aluminum construction instead of steel, but this also means a bigger dent in your wallet. The ClearPC, however, weighs less than 5 pounds, and you can still go out for a steak dinner afterwards.
On to the product...

This review doesn't have pictures in-line with the text as there are a LOT of pictures
So, the review text covers pages 1 through 6, and the graphics go from 7 - 22.
Before we had even begun construction on the case, people walking in to MJP Computers were asking us if they could buy the case! It definitely piqued the interest of many.
I'm happy to say that nearly two months since its construction, it's still running strong - non stop, 24/7, with the cold-cathode tube on. It has never had any heat issues, and is still on display at MJP Computers for people to examine.
The construction process didn't encounter any rough stops, except for when it came to the power supply. It would have been nice if there was a recommended list of power supplies to use with the case, but there isn't, and that is why we had our little incident.
When people see the system (some have missed it since it's clear), it usually drawn their attention for quite some time. And of course, the first thing - "how much" - but, when they find out it's less than the cost of most popular cases, they are amazed.
As are we! It's an amazing product, and for less than $100 U.S. including a power supply, you can't really beat it. Now, if they only made a mini-ITX case, we'd have one hell of an entertainment system ready to go!
REVIEW CORRECTION:
The Micro-ATX Case is now only $59.95 without the power supply! A price reduction from when we received the case.
