News: Cooler Master Kung Fu - Mostly Creative Workshop Video Team Wins
Posted by: MCW Team on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 12:42 AM PST
MostlyCreativeWorkshop News Oxnard, CA - Cooler Master, a well-known computer peripherals company, announced yesterday that Mostly Creative Workshop's video submission, Cooler Master Kung Fu, was the grand prize winner...

"We had a blast. We were given last minute notice of the contest, and came up with the idea about 2 days before the deadline," said Mike Hauwert, the Mostly Creative Workshop Video Team member playing the "Cooler Master" character in the video.

The team was able to get the use of MJP Computers' premises after hours, and shooting lasted for about 8 hours. It was nearly 5 AM when the team had wrapped up.

"Editing started later that evening, and that went on for another 8 or so hours," Mike added.

Mostly Creative Workshop's Video Team has been providing video editing and production services since 2003. Since 2004, Mostly Creative Workshop has been filming short films and working as videographers for parties and events. A couple of their short films appeared in 2005 on Amazon.com when Amazon.com and Tribeca held film festival submissions online.

Cooler Master had announced a film contest earlier this year, and our Reviews and News editor, Jas Batra, knew that it might be a great opportunity for the Video Team, however, he didn't learn of the contest until a week before the deadline.

"I was thinking, hmm, I wish I had seen this earlier. I only found it on accident, while trying to compare some cases offered by Cooler Master. I read the film submission details, and immediately contacted the rest of the video team to let them know," Jas Batra stated.

The contest was not without its own handful of issues. The submission form for the contest resulted in one team member spending hours trying to even get the form to process. Eventually, it was figured out, but Cooler Master ended up ignoring the field causing problems.

Once the voting process began, some individuals began to notice that one video in the contest was reaching a high amount of votes in a short period of time. Screen captures were taken showing the video going from a few hundred to a few thousand votes within a seven minute time span. Following this increase, their views (a separate counter) went through the same process. The video, with nearly 16,000 votes more than everyone else, and nearly the same number of views, was only viewed a handful of times, according to YouTube - where the video was hosted.

To counter the possible cheating, Cooler Master sent confirmation e-mails to all voters, but had mistyped their own domain name, causing it to get blocked in many e-mail filters. Most of our team never received the confirmation e-mails, and only after having one forwarded did we know of the error. We immediately contacted Cooler Master regarding this, and they posted a link to retrieve the vote confirmation e-mail on their website.

"After all was said and done, it was still fun," said Lawrence C. Menasco, III, the script writer and the actor playing the other character in the video. "If we had more time, we could have made it look good, and even have a real script, but it still gets laughs everytime people see it."
